Microsoft has recognized and corrected an installation error on its latest security update on Windows 11, the KB5063878. However, it seems that the version also presents a bug by recording large amounts of data to SSDs that has not yet been resolved.

The supposed problem has not been reported by a large number of users or recognized by Microsoft or SSD manufacturers, so it should be seen as unconfirmed information. However, user Necoru_Cat reports in detail and shows bug tests happening in certain drives.

According to the person, when trying to update Cyberpunk 2077 after the Update of Windows 11, his SSD stopped being recognized by the system. Restart the PC made the partition “disappear” for good. Doing more tests, he concluded that the problem can happen by recording 50GB of data into an SSD at once, and that the bug could affect HDDs as well.

Site gathers List of SSDs possibly affected

Once the first problem report comes from a Japanese user, the countryman Nichepcgamer has checked the answers to the post to compile a list of SSDs that would be affected by the supposed new Windows 11 bug.

According to the site’s calculation, these would be SSD models that presented the reported failure after the update:

  • Corsair Force MP600
  • Phison PS5012-E12 controller-equipped SSD
  • Kioxia Exceria Plus G4
  • FNMT FN955
  • SSD with InnoGrit controller
  • Maxio ssd
  • KIOXIA M.2 SSD
  • Sandisk Extreme for M.2 NVME 3D SSD

The variety of driving manufacturers and controllers may be more indicative that the problem, if confirmed, is really caused by Windows 11.

How to avoid the problem in Windows 11

The report of the possible problem is relatively recent, so it is recommended to avoid recording large amounts of data for those who have done the Windows 11 KB5063878 update. Especially for those who use one of the SSDs listed.

Alternatively, it is also possible to back down the system version to avoid failure. Anyway, the ideal is to be aware of news and perhaps an official Microsoft opinion on the supposed bug.
