Asus has confirmed that it is transferring the production of PCs and motherboards elsewhere. However, the company will not transfer to the US, contrary to what the US president would want, being one of the reasons he put the tariffs.
According to a representative, who spoke to investors in a teleconference of results, More than 90% of PCs and motherboards intended for the US market are being manufactured outside China, especially in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The information is from PCMag, which translated the representative’s speech. And they do not explicitly mention the high and constantly variable import taxes of the US President Trump as a cause, but the subject is understood.

After trips and goings of tariffs earlier this year, with a limit of 145%the current rate for goods and materials sent from China to the US is 30%. Most other countries have a 10%tariff, with higher taxes defined for certain countries and sectors.
China has been the giant of world manufacture for decades. All thanks to low labor costs and many measures favorable to companies by the Chinese government. Now that the US is apparently at a very personal crusade to break this status quo, companies are starting to look elsewhere.

Trump measures

Trump has often oscillated between tariffs and other economic policies. Even the US president threatened to impose a 100% tax on all imported chips, except for companies that invest in the manufacturing in the US.
ASUS, notably, would not qualify for this exception, although chips contained in its products could qualify, as they are provided by companies such as Intel, AMD and TSMC.
Because the manufacture of motherboards depends on hundreds of individual components for each plate, the company migrates manufacturing to the US is unlikely.

In addition to the highest costs of labor and real estate, the Logistics of creation of these devices is so concentrated in Asia that it would be virtually impossible to migrate to any western country on a large scale.
And the manufacture in China is still profitable, even without devices sold in the US. Therefore, domestic business is unlikely to be threatened by a country that massively tax imports. Even if this country is the US.
Competition situation

American and international companies that depend on China for manufacturing have struggled to adapt to Trump rates for most of this year of 2025. The increase in costs raised prices, especially in finished products.
Nintendo, notably, made a shocking increase in the price of the original switch to adapt to market trends. And it is a console with almost 10 years. The company came to postpone Switch 2 pre-sale to study tariffs.
ASUS laptops announced at CES hit the market with remarkably higher prices than previously nominated, although they were also set for sale shortly thereafter.

In the case of Asus, the most visible product is probably the Rog Xbox Ally laptop, made in partnership with Microsoft. And the company also had to increase Xbox hardware prices. According to rumors, the console pre-sale should start at Gamescom.
European prices allegedly leaked at € 599 (R $ 3,783.96) and € 899 (R $ 5,679.10) for default and updated variant x. Despite an expected ad for the end of the month, there is no price information available so far.
