Don’t do that! Bug on windows 11 suggests “eject the GPU”

An unusual bug on Windows 11 offers users the possibility of “ejecting” the GPU, something that would make sense in an external dock, but it sounds very strange on an internal video card on a desktop PC or dedicated to a notebook. If the message appears to the reader, we do not recommend clicking.

The bug was reported on Reddit, accompanied by a screen capture showing the prompt. The message appears in the Windows 11 notification bar, and speaks of ejecting the GPU as if it were to “safely remove a pen drive.” It’s that function that has been in Windows for years and almost no one uses.

According to PCWorld, the bug seems to be an unintentional Windows 11 prompt that has to do with the option to deactivate the dedicated GPU to use integrated processor graphics, something common in notebooks. However, the word “eject” has a very different meaning from disabling or disabled.

We reiterate that it does not look good to click the button offered, because it is unexpected behavior of the system. For those who are very curious, a Reddit user reports that “ejecting the GPU” really makes the system adopt the integrated processor graphics (if the component has). Restart returns to the default configuration.

Problem in Windows 11 appears for years

Apparently this is not the first time users report the Windows 11 bug suggesting eject the video card. The PCWorld people found a thread reporting the Reddit problem four years ago, when the system made its debut yet.

Of all the bugs that have appeared in Microsoft’s operating system over the years, this is certainly not one of the most serious. However, it is quite the kind of thing that can greatly confuse a lay user and possibly result in unnecessary spending on technicians.
