The Open Source platform for RISC-V processors has just received an important tool for supporting more games. The new version of Emulator Felix86 now supports Steam’s customer for Linux, allowing big games like The Witcher 3 and Crysis to run in the architecture.
At the moment the developers behind the emulator does not promise much performance. “We just started, so we didn’t have enough time to make profiles or optimize yet,” says the post on the official, free translation blog. “So don’t expect great performance yet!”

The Gamingonlinux website contacted the developers and did some tests with the new version of Felix86 to RISC-V. In an email with the publication those responsible for the emulator added that the Linux Steam customer now works in the app. “This means that Steam’s DRM games can be played in RISC-V with Felix86.”

Optimism on the rise for RISC-V growth
The open source architecture RISC-V does not appear in the news as often as X86 processors or even ARM, but the enthusiasts behind technology are optimistic about their growth.
At the end of last year the organization behind the platform published a very extensive post praising the growth that RISC-V obtained by 2024 and adjusting its forecast for the coming years. By 2023 they estimated Isa’s presence in 16 billion devices by 2030. The updated forecast is 20 billion systems by 2031.
It is also worth remembering that at the beginning of last year Brazil became one of the main members of RISC-V International, to help promote the adoption of the standard here in Latin America.
Projects seek to expand platform support
At the same time when RISC-V those promoting technology growth, it has appeared in interesting projects in the last time. In November last year we had the promise of Ubitium, a processor that is a “universal” component, acting as CPU or GPU as needed.

More recently, in April this year, China organized a contest to make Zen architecture compatible with RISC-V, which drew attention for the unusual. At the time, doubts were raised from the possibility of doing this, and the lack of news indicates that it was not ahead.
