Asus seems to have made a subtle change in Q-Release design to avoid accidental scratches on video cards to the PCIE port. The change was seen in an Asus Rog Crosshair X870E, which recently began to be sent to reviewers in the US.
As shown in the capture below, Uniko’s hardware people made a comparison illustrating the PCIE connection to a Hero model motherboard that used the original Q-Release version. It is visible a small piece of metal well pronounced between the power pins and data that no longer appears in the Apex model.

This detail is right in the region where the scratches and small damage to GPUs were appearing, so many attributed to the play to blame for the problems.
It is interesting to note that only Asus of China has commented on the problem, saying that any video card would have damage if it was fitted and removed more than 60 times. The company, however, also stated that it would work in a review for Q-Release, and it seems to be what we are seeing now.

As the “controversy” with Asus’s Q-Release seems to have caused more commotion in Asia, Gigabyte’s representation in Japan took the moment to promote. Without even mentioning the rival, the owner of the plates Aorus showed her own GPU fitting system allowing the connection and disconnection of a plate by 100 times, without resulting in damage.

It is worth mentioning that US ASUS never officially pronounced on the matter. Still, the revised version of Q-Release should be used on all new boards of the company. This is because Rog Crosshair Apex already appears listed on the US Newegg and we can clearly see in the images the new design of the connection.
