Arm seems to end its dispute with Qualcomm after accusing the company of violating its intellectual property in the development of the Oryon nuclei. The owner of Snapdragon states that the famous processor architecture company removed its license violation notice, originally issued on October 22, 2024.

The information comes from Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm. During a call with analysts, he said:

“The ARM recently informed us that it will remove its notice of violation of 22 October 2024, and indicated that it has no plans to end the license agreement with Qualcomm.”

This may be an indication that ARM intends to end its dispute with Qualcomm, but we don’t have new information about the dispute between companies in the US yet.

The last update was an important victory for the Snapdragon owner in December last year. At the time, ARM said it would try a new trial, but it may be that the company in the end chose to give up.

Qualcomm disputed by the Oryon nuclei

The dispute between Qualcomm and Arm is complex because it involves a third company, Nuvia. Snapdragon 8 and Snapdragon X were made with nuclei developed by Qualcomm itself, after it acquired Nuvia, a much smaller company that also worked with Arm architecture.

Arm accuses Nuvia of violating its patents in the development of its products, and Qualcomm by table for taking advantage of these designs. In December, a jury decided that the creation of the Oryon nuclei was supported by the existing contract between Qualcomm and Arm, deciding in favor of the Snapdragon owner.

However, the decision was not unanimous, opening a breach for ARM to try a new trial. The judge also said that there was no guarantees that the same verdict would be repeated in a new attempt. But it seems that Arm is rethinking its strategy.
