NVIDIA claims 80% of RTX card owners use DLSS

The launch of the RTX 50 series was the center of attention in NVIDIA’s participation in CES 2025. Now, as the “dust settles”, some of the other information released by the company begins to make the news. In one of the slides in its presentation, NVIDIA stated that 80% of GeForce RTX card users enable DLSS.

Unfortunately, the information does not come with many details. It appeared as an item in the slide shown below, which also mentions that more than 540 games have DLSS. NVIDIA also says that its upscale technology is in “15 of the top 20 games of 2024”, and that 3 billion hours have already been played using the resource.

The disclosure is accompanied by a not very detailed graph on the evolution of the use of the resource. As the company refers to “RTX gamers”, we can estimate that this counts all generations of these GPUs.

We do not know, however, how the data were obtained. If the person activated it once and never used it again, does it already count as a DLSS user? Additionally, it would be interesting to know which versions of DLSS are being used, and how many of those people also take advantage of frame generation, not just upscale.

Will DLSS become standard?

NVIDIA has been arguing for some time that upscale is the future of gaming. The company believes that technologies like DLSS are the way to improve the performance and quality of games, while advances in native rendering are becoming increasingly slower.

That’s why the company is betting on new features for the technology, such as Multi Frame Generation, for example, exclusive to DLSS 4 on RTX 50 cards.
