A NVIDIA revealed details about the new cooling system “Double Flow Through” which will be used on GPUs RTX 50 Founders Edition. The design is engineered to improve thermal efficiency while maintaining the compactness of a two-slot form factor capable of handling a consumption of up to 600W.
Unlike previous generations, where airflow from the fans was partially obstructed by the PCB, the new design allows both fans to direct air through the cooling fins.
This solution improves heat dispersion without compromising compact size, a fundamental feature for systems that require high performance in small formats.
Thermal components
Cooling is based on a 3D Steam Chamberwhich dissipates heat from the GPU, VRAM and power circuits. The structure includes five heat pipes connected to three heat sinks.
The central heatsink is located below the PCB, while the side heatsinks are connected by heat pipes. Axial fans ensure airflow through the set of aluminum fins, efficiently reducing the temperature.
A NVIDIA developed the current design based on solutions adopted since the GTX 10 series, which used blower fans.
The transition to dual fans (very welcome) occurred with the RTX 20 series, followed by larger three-slot configurations in the RTX 30 and 40 series. The RTX 50 series, however, returns to the two-slot format, optimizing thermal performance in a more compact.
New material and noise reduction for the RTX 50
Another big new feature in the design is the use of liquid metal as a thermal conduction material, something unprecedented in NVIDIA projects. The company also confirmed the maintenance of traditional thermal pads to supplement dissipation.
The new design also significantly reduces noise levels, operating at between 30-35 dBA at full load, compared to 50 dBA for previous 300W TDP solutions.
The “Double Flow Through” design will initially be launched in RTX 5090, 5080 e 5070 Founders Edition. O modelo 5070 Ifon the other hand, will only be available through partner designs.
With the launch of GPUs RTX 50 Scheduled for the next few days, the new cooling system promises to be a highlight in the evolution of Founders Edition cards.
