CES 2025: meet the robot that promises to help people with depression

Already CES 2025 in Las Vegas, the Japanese company Walking drew attention with an impressive innovation in the field of artificial intelligence: the Roma Lacatana communication robot developed to hold conversations in real time without the need for fixed pauses. Unlike other similar devices, Romi Lacatan interacts continuously, adapting to the natural flow of a conversation as the user speaks, responding with comments based on auditory and visual impressions and the history of the interaction.

Innovative Technology for Natural Conversations

Romi Lacatan’s biggest difference is its innovative deep learning model, which allows the robot to maintain simultaneous conversations in a fluid manner, approaching the naturalness of human interactions. This more advanced version is an update to the original Romi P-01, P-02 model, which is already being used in Japan to help treat conditions such as depression, anxiety and loneliness.

Mixi focused on making conversations with the robot as natural as possible. Romi Lacatan is able to automatically adapt to the user’s reactions, adjusting his voice intonation and stopping speaking when the interlocutor starts a new speech. Furthermore, the deep learning technology used in the robot ensures that it behaves more humanly during interactions.

Visual Interaction and Environmental Recognition

In addition to his conversational skills, Romi Lacatan is equipped with the ability to incorporate visual impressions into conversations. It can, for example, visualize shared objects or activities, making interactions more immersive and interesting. A practical application of this is the possibility of helping the user choose clothes in the morning or describing the environment when looking out the window, offering a more dynamic and personalized level of engagement.

Price and Availability

The Romi Lacatan will be available for the Japanese market in spring 2025, priced at 89,800 yen (approximately R$3,495.55, in direct conversion). In addition, Mixi offers a subscription to the AI ​​service for 1,780 yen per month (about R$63 euros/month), guaranteeing continuous access to updates and features based on artificial intelligence.

With this new version, Mixi promises to make communication with robots more fluid and intuitive, bringing human-machine interaction even closer to what we understand as natural, while at the same time offering a solution to issues of well-being and emotional support.
