Huawei is preparing to enter the domestic SSD market with a product that could steal the show in terms of competitive price. The eKitStore Extreme 200E is an M.2 NVMe SSD with NAND QLC memories that appeared listed in a Korean store for just 47,500 won. The value is equivalent to just US$32, or R$198 at the current exchange rate.

For this highly competitive price, Huawei offers a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD with an estimated read speed of up to 7,400MB/s. In recording, according to the store page, the product can reach 6,700MB/s.

We haven’t had an official announcement yet, so it’s good to keep an eye on this value. It may only be a temporary number on the store’s website, while Huawei does not disclose the final price of the product. However, if the eKitStore Extreme 200E really costs that much, it should scare off the competition a bit. According to TechPowerUp, the value is half of what is normally found for similar SSDs.

The site also points out that production costs alone should exceed US$32 per product. Thus, Huawei could be willing to operate at a loss to really establish itself in the market with its new products. There are also many questions about the internal components of the drive.

Huawei faces US embargo on manufacturing its products

Huawei is one of China’s largest technology companies, which means it is also one of the most affected by the trade embargoes that the US has been imposing on the country.

This raises curiosity about which components were used in the manufacture of the company’s first domestic M.2 NVMe SSD. The folks at TechPowerUp speculate on some possibilities, such as Silicon Motion controllers, for example, which have already appeared in products from other Chinese manufacturers.

Related news:

The NAND memories themselves can be made in-house, with YMTC being a key supplier of the chips to the territory. The company’s components are called Xtracking 4.0, and may have been used by Huawei in its SSDs.

Unfortunately, until these new drives reach the specialized media, we will only have speculation.
