AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is close to RX 7900 GRE in benchmark test

We recently had a rumor that AMD will change the nomenclature for its generation of GPUs based on RDNA 4, which should mark the debut of the Radeon RX 9070 XT as one of its most advanced models. Now, we have a benchmark test leak that shows the card very close to the Radeon RX 7900 GRE in terms of performance.

The images below supposedly come from the Radeon RX 9070 XT’s results in 3DMark’s Time Spy synthetic test. We can see that the card scores 22,894 for GPU. It’s not a very impressive number, but it aligns with what has been said for a long time about RDNA 4: AMD does not intend to compete in the high-end segment in this generation.

To put the numbers into perspective, Tomasz Gawroński organized a table with other results close to the Radeon RX 9070 XT. We can see that the card scores just 2% more than the currently available Radeon RX 7900 GRE, and is well below – almost 17% – the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

Synthetic benchmark tests are not as interesting as analyzing a card’s performance in practice. We can see in this same table, for example, that the RTX 4070 Ti also appears with basically the same performance as the RX 7900 GRE, and when running real games, this GPU usually performs considerably better.

Price of the Radeon RX 9070 XT will be decisive

It is important to remember that benchmark test leaks are not official and that, often, updated drivers can bring important differences in the results that a GPU obtains.

Until then, it is difficult to make coherent judgments for the Radeon RX 9070 XT. However, since AMD itself has already admitted that it intends to focus on the intermediate segment with the RDNA 4 GPUs, the price of this graphics card will be decisive in facing the competition.
