A CD Projekt Redthe studio responsible for the famous franchise The Witcheris preparing the next big title in the series, The Witcher 4also known as Project Polaris. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, The developers went into detail about their ambitions for the game, promising an even grander experience than The Witcher 3 e Cyberpunk 2077.
The Witcher 4 It will be an evolution, not just a sequel
According to the developers, The Witcher 4 It will not just be a sequel, but an evolution of the franchise. The game will be bigger, more ambitious and, according to those responsible, “it will not be smaller or worse” than its predecessors. The studio reinforces that the objective is to exceed expectations, learning from past challenges, such as those faced during the launch of Cyberpunk 2077and delivering a title of superior quality.
“Again, I’m not going to say it’s easy, but I think we have some cool things happening, and I hope this has a good demonstration of the technology. The only thing I will say is that changing the technology for us doesn’t change the fact that we will always be ambitious.”
“And the next game we play won’t be any smaller, and it won’t be worse. Then, it will be better, bigger, grander than The Witcher 3, it will be better than Cyberpunk – because for us, it is unacceptable to launch in this way. We don’t want to go back.”
“Even if there are some ‘sweaty moments’ and maybe even some bad things happening, still, I think we will try everything we can to do more than we have achieved in the last few years. So technology shouldn’t be a blocker for us, basically.”
Technology will not be an obstacle to the series’ advancement
Regarding technology, the developers highlighted that, although technological change is part of the process, it will not be an obstacle to the series’ progress. The focus remains on creating an experience that not only surpasses previous releases, but also offers an impressive demonstration of CD Projekt Red’s technical capabilities.
Expectations and release forecast for The Witcher 4
Although the full reveal of the game is yet to come, it is expected that The Witcher 4 be released between one and two years after the official release. The promise of a more ambitious game with significant improvements has generated great expectations among fans of the series.
Other points mentioned in the interview
- Better studio organization to avoid another buggy release, including better review processes and more time for pre-production;
- The release of Cyberpunk was not the reason for the switch to UE5 – they wanted to share the technology between multiple projects simultaneously
- Launching first on PC is not in the plans at the moment (it will be released on console at the same time)
