A OpenAIcreator of ChatGPThas halted testing and availability of the preview version of its artificial intelligence-based video creation tool called Sora. The decision came after the leak of access tokens to the platform and protests by artists criticizing the impact of technology on the creative sector. Until then, the company’s plans were make Sora available in 2024.
What happened to Sora?
Last Tuesday (26), authentication tokens for the preliminary version of Sora were released on the Hugging Face platform. For three hours, users with access to the link were able to create short video clips from text commands, before access was removed.

The leak was attributed to a group of artists who had been invited by OpenAI to test the tool. These professionals decided to publicly release access as a form of protest against the company.
It is worth remembering that Sora was being accessed by a group of selected users. Even a commercial, developed by the Native Foreign agency for the American toy store chain Toys”R” used the OpenAI tool in development.
OpenAI also showed a music clip generated using Sora. Check it out below:
Artists’ reviews
The group of artists accuses OpenAI of exploiting its participation in the tests as a public relations strategy, without offering compensation. They also express concerns about the threat that technologies like Sora pose to creative jobs and copyright.
“We are not free bug testers, PR puppets, data trainers or validation tokens,” says a statement from the group. The artists also point out that OpenAI, recently valued at $150 billion, has not been transparent about the data used to train the tool, raising questions about possible copyright infringement.
Additionally, protesters criticize OpenAI’s tight control over Sora creations, suggesting that the testing program was more about promotion than innovation or genuine feedback.
What does OpenAI say?
The company confirmed Sora’s suspension, with no set deadline for his return. In a note sent to The Washington Posta spokesperson stated that OpenAI “Is analyzing the matter” and highlighted that participation in the tests was voluntary, with no obligation to use or provide suggestions.
Despite the controversy, OpenAI has not yet clarified how it plans to deal with the criticisms raised by artists or questions about transparency in the training of its AI.
