New information about the next generation of AMD Threadripper processors, based on Zen 5, has reportedly appeared in a shipping manifest circulating on the internet. Famous “leaker” Everest (Olrak29_) posted a screenshot of the document, showing some details about a Threadripper with 96 cores and one with 16.

The Threadripper 9000 series is also known by the codename “Shimada Peak”, and has not yet appeared in many leaks. In fact, this may be the first time that the model with 16 cores appears, possibly the entry option in AMD’s next family of HPC CPUs.

According to information from WCCFTech, the Threadripper with 16 Zen 5 cores will use a design with 8 CCDs – that is, two cores each. Meanwhile, the 96 model will use 12 chiplets, each with eight cores. Each of these chiplets must have 32MB of L3 cache, which would total 384MB for the high-end Threadripper.

AMD’s new series of advanced processors use the SP6 socket and should arrive alongside new TRX50 and WRX50 chipsets, for standard and Pro versions of the CPUs. The models are expected to make their debut in 2025, but we do not yet have a leak window for launches. In other words, the new Threadrippers will possibly not be part of the various launches that AMD may make at CES 2025.

Among the little information we have so far about the so-called Shimada Peak, one of them is that they can use 3D V-Cache. At the moment the rumor does not seem very conclusive, pointing to information in the manual of an ASUS board that could be there by mistake.

In any case, it wouldn’t be surprising if AMD decided to implement its X3D technology for its most powerful processors. Even though the Threadripper models are not exactly aimed at games, 3D V-Cache technology has helped AMD a lot to promote its processors.
