Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 outperforms Core Ultra 7 258V in games with an average of 75%, says AMD

AMD released a performance comparison between the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, declaring that its Strix Point CPU outperforms Lunar Lake with an average of 75% in games. In fact, one of the main graphics in the release seems to indicate just that:

Some of the games tested include Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy and COD: Black Ops 6, which easily surpass 60fps – which is a feat in itself on an APU for notebooks and portable devices. According to the image, the tests were carried out with the games on “medium” settings.

More detailed graphs, however, indicate that the greatest merit lies with AMD’s FSR 3 (Fidelity Super Resolution) and HYPR-RX technology, not necessarily with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The graphs below show the performance gains made possible by the technology , comparing with Intel’s XeSS:

The numbers that the games achieved without using FSR or HYPR-RX are not disclosed, but you can see in the comparison that, without the technologies, several of the results are very close. In some games, such as Spider-Man Remastered and Hitman 3, the Core Ultra 7 258V outperforms the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 running natively.

AMD’s super resolution technology is open, meaning it can also be used on Intel processors if users are unhappy with the XeSS results. The owner of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 even made a “joke” about it in her announcement.

The table above shows that the Intel solution for using frame generation technology within the game is simply to use AMD FSR 3, as there is no equivalent alternative. The company also takes the opportunity to boast that FSR, in different generations, is present in more than 415 games, while Intel XeSS is present in around 130 games.

At least in AMD’s tests, the performance gain that FSR 3 provides with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is clear. But not every gamer is very happy with the result in image quality with this super resolution technology.
