LG introduced a flexible screen that can be stretched from 12 inches to 18 inches. It is a major evolution compared to the 2022 prototype, revealing the manufacturer’s advances in the sector. According to LG, the technology will be the “definitive format” two displays no future.
LG highlights that the flexible screen capable of stretching by 50% can be used on various devices, be they smartphones, tablets, car multimedia centers, etc. The company is looking for new areas of investment and sold an LCD display factory in China.
A LG’s flexible screen offers 100 pixels of resolutionin addition to full reproduction of the RGB color standard. Perhaps the resolution seems low, but considering it is a new technology, the feat is quite impressive, as the display maintains its resolution even after being deformed (stretched).
LG introduced the first flexible screen in 2022, a model that could only stretch 20%. The new 2024 version presents a considerable leap forward and the South Korean manufacturer guarantees high durability. In presentation, we can see the screen in action (image above) where the touchscreen is activated and a button appears in the center of the screen.
By turning the button, you can control various functions, such as music and calls. The flexible screen used in the presentation looks like the multimedia center of a futuristic car.
LG’s flexible screen promises a lot of durability
When we think about foldable smartphones or flexible displays, we must take durability into consideration. According to the manufacturer, It is possible to stretch the screen up to 10 thousand times without altering the resolution quality or damaging the components.
The executive vice president of LG Display, Soo-young Yoon highlighted how the company intends to continue investing in the sector. “We will continue to build a sustainable future display ecosystem through close cooperation between South Korean industry, academia and research stakeholders“.
It is interesting to see LG advancing in the flexible screen segment. If technology advances, displays can be used in various applications. So far, LG has not announced the first official flexible product, but with advances in the area it shouldn’t take long to present something to the market.
