A benchmark of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D with 16 cores was reportedly run in the Factorio game. The game has a benchmark hosted on Factoriobox, where someone sent a result that would be the first leak of this SKU.
Rumors indicate that AMD will introduce high-performance models as part of the Ryzen 9 series next year. Both the 16-core 9950X3D and 12-core 9900X3D are expected to be announced at CES 2025.
There are also rumors about a 6-core 9600X3D, which, given AMD’s history of launching the X3D series, would be no surprise.
About the benchmark
However, there is no point in comparing the results as even the older Zen3-based 5800X3D outperforms the 7800X3D in this particular benchmark. After reviewing comments on the Factorio forums, this benchmark does not appear to be a reliable indicator of performance.
Scores vary widely depending on several factors, such as software and system configuration. Furthermore, nothing is known about the CPU settings as the software does not record this. Since Zen5 X3D SKUs are now overclockable, this part may have been run with non-standard settings.
The main takeaway is that someone already has access to the 9950X3D and is testing it. This could be anyone from AMD or a motherboard partner, but probably not a reviewer. At least, still.
