The return of Chaves and Chapolin to open TV in Brazil, on SBT, was marked by a good dose of nostalgia and also by the use of a technological device that is gaining more and more prominence: the artificial intelligence. The broadcaster used AI resources to process the images of the episodes.
However, the result displeased many people, due to the “heaviness” of artificiality, and the lack of truly professional curation to notice that the modifications still needed adjustments. We made a article commenting on the use of AI in the Chaves and Chapolin episodes.
SBT commented on the case. In a note sent to Canaltechthe broadcaster confirmed that it will maintain the use of AI in the episodes, and that it received several feedbacks with suggestions for improvements. Check it out in full below:
“The use of AI, aiming to improve the video quality in the Chaves and Chapolin episodes, took care not to alter the original characteristics of the episodes, to improve the audience experience. Resources were used to correct distortions arising from analog recording on tapes; it was normal at the time to use video tapes that degraded, adding noise, phase rotation and other instabilities.
We are, through AI, removing the noises, recomposing the textures, but taking care not to repaint the episodes. However, we received a lot of feedback with suggestions for improvements to the process that will be taken into consideration, always aiming to reproduce it as it was captured.”
