ASUS has released a new BIOS update for AMD AM5 motherboards, introducing new “Turbo Game Mode” designed to optimize gaming performance for X3D processors.

The new functionality will disable one of the CPU’s two chiplets (CCDs), as well as disable Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT), optimizing single-threaded performance for games that do not require all cores and threads.

The ASUS ROG X870E Crosshair Hero flagship motherboard has this new functionality, while other X670, B650 and A620 boards will soon have this functionality as well.

Performance gain

By disabling the second chiplet through the new Turbo Game Mode, the card will reduce latency, improving efficiency in games that perform better with fewer, faster CPU cores.

The functionality will allow users and gamers to easily adjust gaming-focused performance and multi-threaded configurations for different workloads.

ASUS has not stated a specific percentage of performance improvement, but competitor GIGABYTE recently announced a similar BIOS update for its AMD AM5 motherboards called “X3D Turbo Mode”.

GIGABYTE stated that this new functionality will increase the performance of AMD Ryzen 7000X3D, Ryzen 9000X3D and Ryzen 9000 CPUs by 20% to 35%.
