AMD released its financial report for the third quarter of 2024, a period in which the company had the highest income in its history. The gains were driven by record growth in its data center and servers segment. Meanwhile, in the area of ​​gaming GPUs, the company’s income dropped impressively.

As the table above shows, AMD had a total income of $6.819 billion in the last three-month period. The number is 18% higher than the same period last year. Profit was US$3.419 billion – a year-on-year growth of 24%. The following table shows the role that products like Epyc and Instinct played in these gains:

AMD’s data center segment generated US$3.549 billion last quarter. It is more than double compared to last year. The profit draws even more attention, reaching US$1.041 billion, which represents a growth of 240% compared to the same quarter in 2023.

In the gaming area, which includes Radeon GPUs and other customized SoCs – such as the PS5 processor – AMD had a very notable fall. Rent was US$462 million, 69% less than the same period last year. However, the segment still managed to make a profit, even if very little. It was US$12 million in the last quarter, a drop of 94% year over year.

AMD is a company focused on data centers

The precipitous drop in the gaming segment does not worry AMD, which guarantees its success in data centers and servers now. In fact, the company’s forecasts are quite optimistic for the next quarter.

The owner of Epyc stated that it expects revenue of almost US$7.5 billion in the last three months of 2024, with a margin of error of plus or minus US$300 million. The company also expects an increase to 54% in its gross profit margin.

Finally, it is worth highlighting that the company’s “customer” segment also grew in the last period. This includes Ryzen CPUs and APUs, which brought a 29% increase in income in this area, reaching US$1.881 billion. Profit was much more significant, increasing by 97% compared to last year.
