Youtuber turns the PS4 into a portable console; check the result

The creativity of technology enthusiasts has no limits, and a recent project from the YouTube channel Restore Technique prove this. In the video that was posted on the channel, the YouTuber managed turn a PlayStation 4 Slim into a fully functional portable consoledubbed PS4T (PlayStation 4 Transport).

The PS4T combines the power of the PS4 Slim with the portability of a device like the Steam Deck. With a 7-inch screen and Full HD (1080p) resolution, the console offers a visual experience comparable to the Nintendo Switch OLED.

One of the most impressive aspects of the design is the inclusion of built-in speakers, eliminating the need for headphones for an immersive sound experience while you’re commuting, for example.

Creating the PS4T was no simple task. The YouTuber faced several challenges, from adapting the original hardware to developing a suitable power source.

The DualShock 4 controller was literally cut in half and its buttons were redistributed across the new housing. Although the touchpad was sacrificed in this process, the buttons located below it were retained, preserving essential functionality.

One of the biggest challenges was creating a battery that provided the same voltage as the PS4’s original power supply. After much trial and error, the team managed to develop a 100Wh battery, capable of offering up to 1 hour and 30 minutes of continuous gameplay.

Additionally, the PS4T features a mini-HDMI port, allowing players to connect the device to larger screens when they want a more traditional experience.

Unlike PS Portal, which functions only as a streaming for the PS5, the PS4T is a complete and functional PlayStation 4. Although the disk drive has been removed and the HDD replaced with an SSD to save space, the console is capable of running games natively, offering an authentic gaming experience on the go.
