An ongoing investigation in Minas Gerais (MG) brought to light allegations against Correios, suggesting that the state-owned company was adopting the practice of recording “phantom delivery attempts” for packages and parcels.

According to customer reports and evidence collected, Correios could be falsely declaring up to three delivery attempts for items that, in reality, never left the company’s premises or were delivered directly to the respective recipients.

This practice, if confirmed, not only generates frustration among customers, who report significant losses, but also forces them to bear additional costs to resolve the situation, such as picking up the package in person at an agency.

The MPF argues that Correios does not use technologies and apps capable of monitoring its workers, a common practice in private carriers. Resource that could prove the attempted delivery to the properties.

According to the newspaper O TEMPO, public civil action asks that Correios be ordered to pay compensation for moral and social damage in the amount of R$5 million.

The Post Office has not yet commented on the case.
