Thanks to recent leaks from Game Freak, we now know this could be related to the new product use the same ROM format as the current console.

According to the Leaks Center, not only is this true of the device codenamed Ounce, but Nintendo is also reusing many old tools. What is new is the fact that it has decided to work with new encryption solutions, which should make it difficult to break the protections of its new games.

Adopting the same ROM format makes sense, as it facilitates backwards compatibility of the Switch 2 with games from the current model. At the same time, this decision should facilitate the creation of an emulation scene for the new console — and, even for this reason, the Japanese company decided to intensify its fight against software like Yuzu and Ryujinx.

Although there is plenty of evidence that Nintendo’s new hardware will hit stores in early 2025, she continues to make a lot of mystery about him. Officially, all the company has stated is that the new platform exists and should only arrive from the next fiscal year, which starts in March.

However, this did not prevent several leaks from occurring, including one that revealed a supposed prototype of the Switch 2.
