Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA, recently recorded an interview with Altimeter Capital, where he spoke openly about his company’s dominant position in the AI market. One of the statements that caught the most attention in the conversation was that there is currently US$ 1 trillion in data centers based on old CPUs, and that all of them will switch to NVIDIA GPUs in the next 4 to 5 years.
It’s difficult to estimate what the total investment will be over that time if all companies actually choose to modernize their data centers with GPUs, but Huang is confident that it will be done, and using NVIDIA products. He says his company has already “reinvented” computing.
As you would expect, the head of the company with the highest revenue from AI in the world says that AI will be in everything and is inevitable. “Each of the applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Premiere, AutoCAD – you tell me your favorite application for engineering… I promise you, he will use very machine learning in the future”, said the executive. And that would be the reason for the modernization of US$ 1 trillion in data centers with NVIDIA cards.
And Huang’s optimism doesn’t come out of nowhere, as the entire supply of Blackwell boards for servers and data centers is on order for the next 12 months.
NVIDIA defends all investment in generative AI
While questions arise about the future of generative AI and its ability to truly pay off its investment, Huang considers that every dollar should be spent in the area.
The head of NVIDIA cites an example of a company with US$50 billion in CapEx (capital for investment in infrastructure and equipment). He makes a distinction between “past” and “future” investment, to say that the value should be fully invested in generative AI. “And now your company is better,” says the CEO.
