Resident Evil 2: A journey from PS1 to modern remake
Originally released in 1998 for the PlayStation 1, Resident Evil 2 quickly became a classic in the survival horror genre. The game featured the protagonists Leon S. Kennedy e Claire Redfield fighting to survive in a Raccoon City infested with zombies and other horrifying creatures.
The original version impressed players with its pre-rendered graphics, tense atmosphere, and challenging puzzles. The “zapping” system, which allowed each character’s campaign to be played interconnectedly, was an innovation that significantly increased the replay value.
Over the years, Resident Evil 2 has received ports for various platforms, including the Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and PC. However, it was the remake released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC that really revitalized the classic for a new generation of gamers.
The 2019 remake completely reimagined Resident Evil 2, keeping the essence of the original story but updating virtually every aspect of the game. The graphics were recreated from scratch using the RE Engine, offering stunning visuals and an even more immersive atmosphere.
The gameplay has also been modernized, abandoning the tank controls and fixed cameras in favor of a more fluid and dynamic third-person perspective. The remake also expanded some areas of the game and added new content, providing a familiar yet new experience even for series veterans.
The critical and commercial success of the Resident Evil 2 remake has cemented its position as one of the best games in the franchise, attracting both old fans and new players. Now, with the imminent release for macOS, a new wave of gamers will have the opportunity to experience this classic.
