MSI says Wi-Fi 7 on its AMD X870 cards is better than the competition

MSI has taken some interesting care with the Wi-Fi 7 specs on its upcoming line of AMD motherboards, and now it’s promoting itself around it. The brand highlights in a new release that all of its X870 models support a frequency of 320MHz, different from the competition.

As the image below shows, MSI calls the frequency “true Wi-Fi 7”, vehemently stating that all of its AMD X870 cards support 320MHz. Next, the manufacturer lists several models from ASUS (left) and Gigabyte (right) that offer Wi-Fi 7 at 160MHz only.

It’s curious that MSI took the trouble to “censor” the specific name of each card, but still made it very obvious what they are. In the case of ASUS we have TUF Gaming, Prime and ROG Strix models, while at Gigabyte there are AORUS Elite, Gaming X and Eagle.

The information highlighted in advertising is no secret. In the specifications of each card on their official websites, it is possible to see support for the 160MHz frequency in Wi-Fi 7. It is also interesting to note that some models from other manufacturers are, yes, compatible with 320MHz. VideoCardz cites the X870E AORUS Master as an example:

Still, MSI stands out for offering 320MHz on its X870 cards, while the frequency appears on its rivals’ X870E models, which are more expensive.

Wi-Fi 7 is still in its infancy

The new generation of wireless internet connections is still taking its first steps in people’s homes. Therefore, it is important to remember that potential MSI users also need a router prepared to take advantage of the 320MHz frequency.

It is possible that other manufacturers imagine that only buyers of high-end cards will have the most advanced routers capable of taking advantage of all the possibilities of Wi-Fi 7. But it is also not difficult to imagine scenarios in which someone is more interested in the speed and stability of the internet than at the maximum specs of the computer.
