Lenovo is touting the battery savings of Intel Lunar Lake CPUs, showing how their use can represent a leap forward compared to other competitors.

To demonstrate the improvements made in this generation, they released a test with their new Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition notebook – which has a Core Ultra 7 258V – compared to what is seen in notebooks with Apple M2 and M3, which brought very positive results for Intel’s new mobile line.

The test was very simple, focusing on the ability to play videos locally at 150 nits brightness, using a sample in H.264 format (1920×1080 resolution at 24 FPS) in a loop. The Intel Lunar Lake CPU is equipped with 32GB of memory, running on Windows 11 with version 24H2.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition was put to the test against the Apple MacBook with M2 (8GB) and M3 (24GB). In the tests, the notebook with Intel Lunar Lake held the battery for 23 hours and 54 minutes, while the MacBook with M3 chip lasted 18 hours and 32 minutes. The M2 came in third place, holding the test for 18 hours and 19 minutes.

Obviously, battery consumption varies depending on the workload, but the test already shows that this 30% improvement in the performance of Intel Lunar Lake CPUs already represents an interesting leap forward for the next generation. It was 5.5 hours of extra time; which is already an interesting advance for the use of notebooks with these processors.

Lenovo wasn’t the only company to highlight the battery drain of Intel Lunar Lake CPUs, with Dell also claiming the chip lasted 26 hours of use on its new XPS 13 line of notebooks.

Others have shown that, in fact, Intel’s new mobile processors outperform the competition in terms of consumption – as they have carried out tests with samples and recently with final products – however, it was not as big a leap as that shown by Lenovo and Dell.

Considering that the Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition notebook shown in the tests was an engineering sample, it is possible that the results presented in its final version will be different from what was presented – which may or may not be something even better.

Intel Lunar Lake CPUs will hit stores on September 24, 2024, so more information about their economy and battery consumption should be presented in the coming days.
