During the event Made on Youtubeheld this Wednesday (18), the platform revealed a set of AI-powered features, as well as a line of community tools and new ways to build a business, which will give creators, new and established, the opportunity to build their audiences, boost their businesses and make the YouTube the best place to create, participate and be a fan.

The announcements were as follows:

Veo integration into YouTube Shorts’ Dream Screen feature, a new generative AI tool model:

YouTube will introduce Veo, Google DeepMind’s latest generative video model, to Shorts. YouTube is the first to apply this technology, bringing it to millions of users. Later this year, creators and everyday users will have unprecedented creative freedom to create even more extraordinary video backgrounds, and for the first time in 2025, they will have the ability to generate standalone 6-second video clips for their Shorts.

    • Of all the channels uploading to YouTube each month, 70% are uploading Shorts.
    • Since we introduced revenue sharing for Shorts, creators’ total earnings generated from Shorts have increased every quarter.

Communities, a new destination where creators and fans can come together and build deeper connections in a space just for them:

Communities is a new destination that will be located directly within a creator’s channel, where both the creator and their viewers can start conversations with each other. Creators can start or join a conversation, and for users, it’s a place to hang out and connect with other viewers of their favorite creators. Available to select creators now, with plans to expand in 2025.

Introducing Hype, a new way for viewers to support rising creators

Around the world, communities of passionate fans rally around emerging YouTube creators, eager to help them succeed. Hype will take that experience to the next level. Now, in addition to liking or sharing, fans can also “promote” their favorite new videos from creators with less than 500K subscribers, helping more emerging creators get noticed.

The videos with the most hype points each week will make it onto a new leaderboard, where creators have the opportunity to be discovered by new audiences.

  • In just the first four weeks of Hype beta testing in Turkey, Taiwan and Brazil, users promoted over 5 million times across over 50,000 unique channels;
  • The largest age group using Hype in our beta tests in Turkey, Taiwan and Brazil is 18-24 years old, representing over 30% of all Hype users.

Here are more ways YouTube is helping creators connect with their global community and build sustainable businesses.

Introducing Gifts, powered by Jewels, a new way for creators to make money on YouTube: Jewelry and Gifts are digital items that can drive real-time fan engagement while unlocking another way for you to earn, available on live streams in the U.S. vertical later this year.

  • Tens of thousands of channels have more than doubled their Fan Funding earnings year over year.

Expanding YouTube’s auto-dubbing tool to hundreds of thousands of creators to make their content accessible to even more people around the world.

YouTube’s auto-dubbing feature allows creators to generate translated audio tracks for their videos in different languages. In the coming months, we’ll be expanding to more creators by expanding to more languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and more.

YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program in additional countries:

The YouTube Shopping affiliate program is currently available in the US and South Korea, and today we’re expanding to Indonesia in partnership with Shopee, with Thailand and Vietnam launching in the coming weeks.

  • There are currently over 250,000 creators on YouTube Shopping.

New updates to the YouTube on TV experience for creators:

We’ll be introducing an update to allow creators to organize their content into seasons and episodes, implement immersive content that plays directly from a creator’s channel, add simplified subscription options, and include easier access to links in descriptions.

  • The number of creators who make the majority of their YouTube revenue on TV screens has increased by more than 30%.

Expanding the Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio to provide even more contextualized ideas and transform the way creators approach ideation and content creation

YouTube is rolling out AI-powered titles, thumbnails, content ideas, outlines and more to jumpstart creative processes. Rolling out to creators by 2024, they’ll be able to use these suggestions to build out full projects or simply enjoy them.

Evolving the Comments tab in the YouTube Studio mobile app to become a ‘Community Hub’

The comments tab in YouTube Studio will be renamed to “Community.” It’s now a destination for creators to learn more and engage with their top commenters and community members. We’re adding AI-powered reply suggestions tailored to the creator’s style, giving them a helpful starting point that you can easily customize to craft a response.
