During a broadcast held this Tuesday (10), Sony finally revealed to the world the first details of the PlayStation 5 Pro. According to Mark Cerny, one of the Japanese company’s main hardware architects, the new product appears as away of combining great visual fidelity with cutting-edge performance.

The company claims the new model has a GPU with 67% more Compute Units (CUs) than the original version of the console and 28% faster memory. It also features advanced ray tracing capabilities and the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) system, which ensure more immersive visuals and improved quality.

Cerny says these are the “Big Three” elements that will allow the PlayStation 5 Pro to become the most powerful gaming machine the company has ever produced. He also explained that the intention was to make it so that consumers no longer have to choose between Fidelity or Performance modes when playing current and future titles.

PlayStation 5 promises to improve performance of old games

Something Sony didn’t mention in its presentation is that the new console will debut the system it calls PS5 Pro Boost. It works with virtually all 8,500 backwards compatible PlayStation 4 titles, and promises to improve the gameplay experience of experiences that suffered from performance instability.

Sony said the PlayStation 5 Pro will improve the image quality of “select games” on the PS4, which it did not specify. It also showed comparisons of games such as The Last of Us Part II, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7, Alan Wake 2 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 running on the new device with 60 FPS performance and high visual fidelity.

Additionally, it confirmed that it created the new device to be consistent with the visual language adopted by the rest of its current console line. With the same height as the original PS5 model, the new product has the width of the Slim model and, at least initially, will be sold in an all-digital version.

Therefore, anyone who wants to enjoy games on physical media will have to buy the disc reader that Sony already sells separately (and the vertical stand will also be sold separately). According to the company, The PlayStation 5 Pro will hit stores in select markets on November 7th this year for a suggested retail price of $699.99. — or approximately R$3950 in a direct conversion to Real.

This price guarantees access to an internal SSD with a capacity of 2TB, WiFi 7 connectivity, a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom and a DualSense wireless controller. According to the company, pre-sales of the console begin on September 26 in the United States through its Direct channels. So far, the product still has no official release dates in Brazil.
