Manufacturer Silicon Power has announced its newest industrial microSD card that achieves an incredible read speed of 820 MB/s – faster than a standard SATA SSD with an average of 560 MB/s and more than eight times faster than the common UHS-I cards that are equipped in tablets, cameras and gaming devices like the Nintendo Switch.
According to the company, the “SET320” model will hit the market with 256GB and 512GB and will be the first SD Express produced by them. This format uses the PCIe Gen 3×1 interface and NVMe via SD 7.0 to achieve this speed.
It’s true that the standard used by Silicon Power’s microSD card is not available to the general public and there are few devices that would be compatible with it, but it’s still impressive to deliver SSD speed in such a small format.
Silicon Power targets artificial intelligence
As mentioned above, Silicon Power’s high-speed microSD card standard is an “industrial” solution, with the design being produced to meet the high demand for artificial intelligence applications. Considering the space that the model takes up – which is minimal – numerous of them could be inserted into servers for less complex tasks.

In addition to its speed in such a small size, it also gains attention for its efficiency that comes with low energy consumption – requiring only 1.5mW.
As stated above, although Silicon Power’s focus is on providing its microSD card for servers and for use in artificial intelligence, it is also compatible with devices that support the UHS-I “XC” format – that is, it will work on many devices, but not with the improved speed that it has the potential to achieve.
