MSI motherboards from the “600” line are offering increased performance for AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs through the BIOS, providing a mode that changes their TDP to 105W.
The option was spotted in the AGESA 1.2.0.1 firmware version and tested by leaker “kuroberu“, who shows the jumps seen in the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs. Both have official support for up to 65W, but using a higher consumption can bring a performance boost to the new processors.
Using an MSI X670E MPG Carbon motherboard, “kuroberu” noted that the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X CPU, for example, saw a performance increase of up to 13%. Using Cinebench R23, he reported that at 65W the multi-core test result was 20,409. In 105W mode, it achieved a result of 23,153 in the same test.
It is important to note that there is no confirmation about the feature being officially made available by AMD for the next BIOS update of its motherboard models and when this content may be available to all users.
WCCFTECH speculates that it will be officially made available to the public with version AGESA 1.2.0.2 and that MSI has decided to only release the feature previously in its current firmware for the 600 line motherboards.

MSI and AMD aim for better Ryzen 9000 performance
It is notable that if the feature is officially made available by AMD, not only MSI but other manufacturers will also follow suit and make the 105W TDP mode available for better performance of Ryzen 9000 CPUs. A BIOS update is expected to hit the public sometime between September and October.
With a launch that generated several discussions, AMD brought the new “Granite Ridge” processors with a very small difference in relation to the previous generation of hardware – which should already be impacting its sales and public adoption of the Zen5 architecture.
Windows 11 version 24H2 is also expected to bring improvements to the performance of AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs – which will also influence the Zen4 and Zen3 architectures, bringing better results also for the manufacturer’s latest desktop processors (which will not impact the performance difference between them).
