NVIDIA has confirmed that a variant of the GeForce RTX 4070 GPU is coming to market equipped with GDDR6 memory, with a launch scheduled for September. It is important to note that they say that the GDDR6X version will remain on the market and there are no plans to end its production.
The only difference between the versions is the memory, with the announced variant with GDDR6 memory operating at 20 Gbps while the GDDR6X version reaches 21 Gbps. However, the manufacturer points out that both will have the same clock speed, 12GB memory capacity and – probably – the same TDP configurations.
Another aspect that you should pay attention to is that NVIDIA will not offer the GeForce RTX 4070 variant with GDDR6 as a “new SKU”, so if you want to buy one and are keeping an eye on this detail, it is recommended that you pay extra attention so as not to buy the wrong one.
According to the company, the graphics card will use the AD104-251 GPU with 5,888 CUDA cores and its 12GB GDDR6 memory will continue to be linked to the 192-bit bus interface. The variant will have 5% less bandwidth, counting on 480 GB/s instead of 504 GB/s.
The GPU is expected to maintain the 200W TDP and be compatible with both 12VHPWR and 8-pin connectors. Despite having minor changes, the manufacturer will sell the new graphics card for the same price as the GeForce RTX 4070 with GDDR6X – $549, the suggested price after the arrival of the Super GPUs.
