ZOTAC has announced that pre-orders have started for its ZONE handheld device, which will run PC games just like the ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and Legion Go. One of the additional details that was revealed about the device is that it will have an AMOLED display and that it will sell for the “premium” price of $799.
One of the things that caught the most attention is that the price is the same as the ROG Ally X – ASUS’s latest portable model – and it has less memory (24GB for the ROG Ally X versus the new console’s 16GB) and reduced storage (1TB for the ROG Ally X versus 512GB).
However, ZOTAC will bring some features to the ZONE laptop that are not present in the others – which goes a little beyond its display. It will arrive with the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U APU, which has NPU (enabling the use of artificial intelligence) and AMD itself is taking care of its drivers – unlike the others, which are provided by the manufacturers.
In addition, the company announced that upon its arrival it will already have support for Fluid Motion Frames and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) – which is also not seen in other devices on the market. These could be interesting differentiators for consumers, despite the final price of the product not being so attractive.

The launch of the ZOTAC ZONE laptop
In terms of specifications, ZOTAC revealed that the ZONE laptop will feature the AMD APU – which has 8 cores and 16 threads, reaching boost speeds of up to 5.1 GHz. It also uses the Radeon 780M iGPU (RDNA 3 with 12 compute units).
As previously mentioned, it will feature 16GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory and 512GB of M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0×4 storage – which will apparently be the only option available at launch. The device will have a UHS-II SD card slot to expand this if desired.
The ZOTAC ZONE laptop’s AMOLED display is 7 inches, with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. According to the manufacturer, it will have 800 nits of peak brightness. In addition, the device has Hall Effect buttons, dual touchpads and two USB4 ports.
The manufacturer will launch it during gamescom 2024, which takes place in Germany from August 21st to the 25th.
