After acquiring Silo AI, AMD decided to invest even more in the artificial intelligence industry and also closed a deal with ZT Systems – which works with computational design and infrastructure for AI and cloud for large technology companies.
The deal could be worth $4.9 billion and includes a mix of cash and stock — including a $400 million contingency payment if certain performance metrics are met during the process.
AMD has a simple plan in the AI industry: catch up with NVIDIA and become one of the largest corporations working with artificial intelligence in the market – both in terms of software and hardware.
Although the goal is clear, achieving it will be another story. Jensen Huang’s corporation is one of the main pillars of technology today, mainly due to the expectations it has with the upcoming B200 accelerators, its line of Blackwell servers and the entire AI ecosystem that they are preparing alongside the market.
While AMD is looking to acquire ZT Systems’ computing infrastructure business, it is not interested in the company’s server infrastructure manufacturing division, which it has announced it will seek to sell to an unnamed “strategic partner.”

AMD and the AI industry
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su says the acquisition of ZT Systems will help further its growth in the AI industry and that they already have an idea of how to group the projects of both to boost themselves.
Our acquisition of ZT Systems is our next major step in a long-term AI strategy to bring leading AI training and inference solutions that can be rapidly delivered at scale across cloud and enterprise customers.
Dra. Lisa Su
AMD’s strategy is to further strengthen itself, bringing in acquisitions that add strength and help it get even closer to its competition in the market.
ZT adds world-class systems design and server solutions expertise, significantly strengthening our data center AI systems and enablement capabilities for our customers. This acquisition also forms part of our ongoing investments to accelerate our AI hardware and software roadmaps. By combining our high-performance Instinct accelerators, EPYC CPUs and networking product portfolio with ZT Systems’ industry-leading data center expertise, AMD will be able to deliver a full-stack of AI servers at scale to our ecosystem of manufacturers and consumers.
Dra. Lisa Su
ZT Systems is not new to the market
It is important to note that ZT Systems has been operating in the market since 1994, with headquarters in New Jersey, United States. In addition to AMD itself, it has also worked alongside other industry giants such as NVIDIA and Intel – bringing solutions to all of them over the years.
Its area of coverage is to bring solutions for server design for areas such as processing, storage, GPU and accelerators, high-performance computing, 5G and edge computing.
The deal between AMD and ZT Systems is expected to close in the first half of 2025.
