HighPoint announced this week the SSD7749M2, its new RAID card for M.2 NVMe SSDs. The product allows the connection of up to 16 M.2-2280 SSDs in RAID for performances of up to 28GB/s and capacities reaching an impressive 128TB.
The product incorporates HighPoint’s switch technology to connect via the PCIe Gen4 x16 interface, making it easy to install the card in virtually any desktop PC. Even so, it is clear that this is a solution aimed at professional and productivity PCs.
Despite the practicality of the solution, there are drawbacks. Not every SSD drive will fit on the RAID card or have its performance optimized by the organization. HighPoint recommends Samsung 990 Pro or Sabrent Rocket 4Plus drives.
From the outside, HighPoint’s new RAID card resembles a giant GPU. It has a more visible fan in the middle and two more, half-hidden, on the edge. The casing is made of aluminum with integrated heatsinks, and there are several outlets for hot air. The manufacturer promises that the fans are “ultra-quiet” in operation.
Finally, the company highlights that the SSD7749M2 comes with its Gen4 Data Security Suite, which offers SafeStorage encryption and secure boot at the hardware level. All this to prevent unwanted access to SSD data and protect against the injection of malicious code during boot.
New RAID Card Price and Availability
HighPoint has announced that the base version of its new board will cost $1,999, arriving in late August. Other configurations with SSDs already installed will also be offered, but the company has not yet announced pricing for those.
More about SSDs:
It is interesting to remember that in 2018 HighPoint announced a similar solution, supporting only 4 SSDs. Two years later, in 2020, the SSD7540 arrived, supporting up to 8 SSDs. Now, we have 16 drives with almost 130TB and speeds approaching 30GB/s.
