“Boom! Booom! Monkey Simão Urgent! The armed wing of the national party! There is no column today because I am addicted to “Show do Milhão”. I don’t even get up to drink water. It was the best Christmas present I ever received: a CD-ROM of “Show do Milhão”. With the face and VOICE of Silvio Santos, this is how journalist José Simão describes himself expressed in his column in Folha de S.Paulo on January 7, 2001, talking about one of SBT’s investments in the world of games. The official game of Show do Million.
The fight for the symbolic million
Released in 1999 for PC, the result of a partnership between SBT Music and Abril Music, the game also landed on the Mega Drive in 2001. The game revived the iconic dynamics of the program that mixed games of chance and knowledge tests, hosted by the legendary presenter Silvio Santos.
“Now you can play Show do Milhão, one of the biggest TV hits of all time, in your home, straight from your Mega Drive. All this with impressive realism, and best of all, without needing a computer! You can also count on the digitized voice of Silvio Santos himself, so that your game will be even more similar to the original, and a repertoire of 1000 questions that will guarantee many hours of fun for you and your family.” Tec Toy emphasized in promoting the game.

Just like on TV, Show do Milhão was considered a success in the gaming world. By 2002, considering the combined numbers of four versions of the game for PC, more than 1 million copies had already been sold.
The specifications for running the game at the time included a Pentium 133 MHz or Celeron with 32 MB RAM, Windows 98 or higher, a SoundBlaster or compatible sound card, and 70 MB available on the hard drive. With each re-release, more questions were included. While the first version had 800 questions, the sixth, released in 2006, had more than 20,000 questions.

In 2016, the game gained a mobile version, aimed at cell phones.
In addition to the dynamics, the famous briefcase with gold bars, the row of university students ready to help with any question, the Show do Milhão program was also marked by phrases said by Silvio: “are you sure about this?”, “can I ask?”, among others.
Phrases that were also imported to the PC, console and cell phone versions of the game, increasing the player’s immersion in experiencing something closer to what was experienced by the lucky participants who went to SBT to come face to face with Silvio Santos and try to take R$1 million in gold bars home. A feat that was only achieved by former banker Sidiney de Moraes on October 22, 2003.
The master of communication!
Some people build such an impactful legacy in what they set out to do that death seems unattainable to them. The disbelief when reality sets in and shows that even they will die causes a shock and a strange feeling. This feeling must be present in millions of Brazilians this Saturday (17), with the confirmation of the death of Silvio Santos, at the age of 93.
His long career and life made him a mythical figure even in his lifetime. His voice and image spanned generations, his programs and manner of conducting created an indelible mark on the world of entertainment and communication, masterfully representing the golden age of television.
Here is this simple tribute to the man who knew how to build sensations and memories that contributed to the happiness of many people.
Let’s smile and sing!
You can’t take anything from the world!
Let’s smile and sing!
Rest in peace, Silvio Santos!
