Loongson promises high-end Intel 12th and 13th Gen performance in 3B6600

Hu Weiwu, founder and CEO of Loongson, has promised big performance gains for the company’s upcoming CPU for home PCs. The 3B6600 will have performance comparable to Intel’s mid- to high-end 12th and 13th generation processors.

The 3B6600 will be the successor to the 3A6000, which already attracted attention earlier this year with some of its performance results. Loongson seems to be getting closer to Intel and AMD with each new release, so it is accelerating its processor roadmap.

To fulfill its founder’s promise, Loongson is preparing the 3B6600 with eight cores, based on the LA864 architecture. It is assumed that the CPUs will be manufactured by SMIC, using a BIG.little 4 + 4 hybrid design. That is, four BIG cores optimized for performance and four little cores focused on efficiency.

Loongson’s new processors are clocked at 3GHz, and Weiwu is confident that they will be on par with the Intel CPUs that were mentioned. In addition, the 3B6600 has integrated graphics, coming with an LG200 GPU. The manufacturer also promised more optimization for Windows and Linux applications.

Loongson prepares expansion in its portfolio

According to the company’s roadmap, the 3B6600 will be accompanied by several other Loongson products. The Chinese company is also preparing the high-performance 3D7000 and 3E7000 CPUs, with up to 64 cores for servers. In this case, the promise is of performance comparable to the Ice Lake generation of Intel Xeon processors.

Finally, the 3B6600 already has its successor in the company’s plans. Next year we should see the launch of the 3B7000, increasing the clock speed to 3.5GHz and bringing support for current technologies.
