A Apple plans to launch new Macs and notebooks in October this year, equipped with the chip M4 next-generation. Mark Gurman, a journalist known for his coverage of Apple, suggests that the next Mac Mini will have an ultra-compact design, the biggest change since 2010. Gurman claims that the device will be much smaller, comparable to the size of an Apple TV.

The new Mac Mini is being developed in two versions: one with the M4 chip, the same as the latest iPad Pro with OLED screen, codenamed J773, and another with the yet-to-be-revealed M4 Pro.

The Mac Mini currently has a metal body measuring 7.7 inches (19.7 cm) wide and deep, 1.4 inches (3.6 cm) tall, and weighing 2.7 pounds (1.2 kg). In comparison, the Apple TV 4K measures 3.7 inches (9.3 cm) in both width and depth, 1.2 inches (3.1 cm) tall, and weighs 7.7 ounces (208 grams). We don’t yet know exactly how small the new Mac Mini with the M4 and M4 Pro chips will be, but it’s expected to retain the metal body.

In 2021, there were rumors about a new Mac Mini with an Apple Silicon processor and an ultra-compact design, including metal sides and a glass top, as well as various connections such as USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet and MagSafe. However, this design was never confirmed, leading to speculation that the Mac Mini update could have been canceled or perhaps never happened.

More information about the new Mac Mini with M4 and M4 Pro chips is expected in the weeks leading up to its launch, scheduled for October.
