We’ve already shown the potential of the Radeon 890M iGPU present in AMD Ryzen AI 300 APUs a few times. Now, laptop manufacturer GPD says that The graphics capability of these integrated chips is even greater than Intel’s next-generation mobile chips (Lunar Lake)according to our own results in synthetic benchmarks.
When presenting its new device, the Chinese manufacturer also revealed results in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark. With 3,647 points, this value is higher than the 3,438 achieved by the Intel Core Ultra 7 268V with the iGPU Arc 140V. Both mobile SKUs were operating at 45w.
One leak showed that Intel’s mobile CPU achieved this value with a TDP of 17w, well below the value disclosed by GPD. According to this leak, the result would be higher than that presented by AMD Radeon 890M with Intel’s SKU at 30w, going to 4,151.
AMD Radeon 890M na cola da RTX 3050 mobile
Last month, we showed here that ASUS benchmarks placed the Radeon 880M, an iGPU below the top-of-the-line Radeon 890M, close to the GeForce RTX 3050 mobile at 40w. Now, GPD’s benchmarks with its new device show that the top-of-the-line integrated graphics are even closer to NVIDIA’s dedicated mobile GPU.
It’s also interesting to see how much the RDNA 3.5-based iGPU has evolved over its RDNA 3 predecessor. Comparing the Radeon 890M with the Radeon 780M, the best solutions in their generations, there is not only a big leap in performance, but also in the efficiency of the new chip.
Consuming 18W less, the RDNA 3.5 iGPU achieves a thousand more points in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark. This capacity also puts AMD’s SKU ahead of the RTX 2050 notebook without much difficulty.
The Radeon 890M is present in the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the strongest APU in a lineup that only has two SKUs so far. The Intel Core Ultra 7 268V, which has not yet been officially revealed, should not be the best implementation of the lineup, since the Core Ultra 9 series still exists.
AMD Ryzen AI 300 processors with Radeon 890M and 880M iGPUs are now available in notebooks on the global market. Intel Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake mobile CPUs are scheduled to debut in September.
