OneXPlayer has revealed its new external GPU (eGPU) solution involving an AMD graphics chip that has not yet been announced. OneXGPU 2 will arrive equipped with one Radeon RX 7800M and that would be the first implementation of the Navi 32 GPU in AMD’s current mobile graphics lineup.
No details about the product or the mobile GPU have been revealed yet. The AMD Navi 32 GPU powers the Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT graphics cards with 3,456 to 3,840 cores, and the smallest implementation (Radeon PRO W7700) has 3,072. The alleged Radeon RX 7800M may have something close to the latter value.
The RDNA 3 mobile GPU lineup is almost entirely made up of Navi 33. There are four SKUs that use the entry-level graphics chip: the Radeon RX 7600S, RX 7600M, RX 7700S, and RX 7600M XT. AMD then launched the Radeon RX 7900M, which uses the Navi 31 GPU and its smaller implementation.
Late last year, OneXPlayer launched the first version of the OneXGPU, featuring a Radeon RX 7600M XT, the most powerful mobile graphics chip with the Navi 33 GPU. The device hit the international market starting at US$599, so we can expect even more with the new OneXGPU 2 and the RX 7800M.
The device with an external GPU is the first on the market with an M.2 SSD slot, according to the manufacturer itself. It is possible to upgrade with the Oculink cable, which uses the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and allows data transfer of up to 63 Gbps, unlike the 32 Gbps of Thunderbolt 4.
Above this upgrade are the different M.2 2280 SSD size options, which are 512GB ($39), 1TB ($69), 2TB ($119), and 4TB ($179).
The device has two USB 3.2 ports, an RJ45 port, a connection for a 280W power supply, and a single PCIe 2.0 slot for an M.2 SSD. The external GPU dock has a cooling system with a copper area and a small fan. It weighs 789g and measures 18cm long, 10cm wide, and 1.6cm thick.
The OneXGPU 2 successor with the Radeon RX 7800M is expected to launch soon, while the company searches for beta testers.
