Postmen, drivers and workers in the areas of treatment and service of Mail have been on strike in 9 states since 10 pm last Wednesday (7). The strike, approved in assemblies of the 9 states in question, was organized by the Interstate Federation of Employees of the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company.

The following states joined the strike:

  • São Paulo;
  • Rio de Janeiro;
  • Rio Grande do Sul;
  • Parana;
  • Ceara;
  • Alagoas;
  • Maranhao;
  • Piauí;
  • Tocantins.

What is the reason for the strike?

The demands include salary adjustments, better working conditions, new public competitions to increase the number of employees and also the cost of the health plan:

“The main point of this strike today is the cost of the health plan,” said Douglas Ramos, communications director at Findect and Sintect (Union of Workers of the Brazilian Postal, Telegraph and Similar Companies of São Paulo, Greater São Paulo and the Sorocaba postal zone).

According to the official position of the Post Office, agencies in the states that have adopted the measure continue to operate normally throughout the country. In order to continue with the routine of service, the state-owned company explains that some measures are being adopted such as “transferring professionals and working overtime to cover occasional absences.
