Some partners of Intel in supplying motherboards compatible with Core chips have started releasing firmware updates to combat instability issues on 13th and 14th generation chips. MSI, ASRock and ASUS (still in beta version) are the first brands to bet on this microcode update.
It is worth remembering that these updates will not be able to fix the problem on chips that are already experiencing instability. As already confirmed by Intelchips that are already unstable will have permanent damage. For this group of users, all they need to do is file an RMA request to replace the chip. Affected chips will have a 2-year warranty extension.
The firmware update aims to prevent CPUs that are working perfectly from suffering from the problem. The main cause of the failures is the high operating voltage of the chip. According to Intel, this voltage increase is due to the microcode algorithm that results in incorrect voltage requests to the CPU, directly impacting the instability of the chip.
Motherboard manufacturers are already making the update available on their websites for some models. As of the publication of this article, the updates are already available for the following models:
MSI
- MEG Z790 GODLIKE MAX (Portk);
- MEG Z790 ACE MAX;
- MPG Z790 CARBON MAX WIFI II;
- MPG Z790 Carbon Max WiFi;
- MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi;
- MAG Z790 Tomahawk Max WiFi;
- MSI Z790 MPower.
ASRock
ASUS
In the specific case of ASUS, the builds are still in Beta stage. It is highly recommended to wait for the release of the final version. The list of models that are in Beta stage can be consulted at this official link on the company forum.
