A Sony revealed its financial statement for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024. As reported by our fellow publisher, GameViciothe company achieved the feat of having already sold more than 61 million PS5 units since launch.
Specifically in the period between April 1 and June 30, which is covered by the financial report, the company sold 2.4 million PS5 units, down from the 3.3 million sold in the previous quarter. In contrast, just like on Xboxthe balance sheet indicates a positive outlook in relation to revenue obtained in the gaming and network services (G&NS) segment.
In this segment, Sony recorded a growth of 12% in the first fiscal quarter of fiscal year 2024, recording revenue of 93 billion yen (about US$ 427 million). In addition to the expansion of the PlayStation Plus subscription service, games developed for PlayStation are the pillars for growth in this segment. The difference between sales between physical and digital games is also noteworthy: 80% digital and 20% physical.
The operating margin, indicating the efficiency of the strategies being applied, also improved, up 26%.
