Lenovo has launched its new hybrid notebook, the ThinkBook Plus Gen5 Hybrid, combining Intel and Snapdragon CPUs to deliver performance as both a Windows PC and an Android tablet.

How is this possible? The screen and the “keyboard” are two separate devices – it works perfectly as a tablet (via Qualcomm’s chip) and, by attaching the keyboard to it, it can run Windows without any major problems (via Intel’s chip). And not only that, since users can use both systems simultaneously on the same screen.

In terms of hardware, each part of Lenovo’s hybrid notebook has its own specifications. The “keyboard” is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H CPU, with 16 cores and support for 32GB of LPDDR5X-7467 memory, as well as 1TB of storage with an M.2 2280 SSD in PCIe 4.0×4 standards.

The tablet, which is the only part that can work independently, has a 14-inch OLED “2.8K” screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor – with 12GB LPDDR5X memory (speed not specified) and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Both parts of Lenovo’s hybrid notebook have their own power supply and battery – 38 Whr for the tablet part and 75 Whr for the keyboard. It is only being sold in China for now and is priced at 15,999 RMB (approximately $2,200).

Lenovo’s hybrid notebook concept

Lenovo doesn’t exactly bring a “new” product to the market with its hybrid notebook, but it’s worth noting that it’s one of the only ones that has two processors – which can work separately or simultaneously.

However, it is important to note that the product is not perfect: there is no integration of the systems, they operate separately, even if you have both running at the same time on the screen. In other words, you cannot make something from Windows run on the Snapdragon CPU or its mobile part run on the Intel CPU.

While this isn’t what we’re aiming for, Lenovo’s strategy for its hybrid notebook isn’t really a disadvantage – as we’ve seen in recent weeks, issues like the “Blue Screen of Death” could be easily resolved if users could just switch between systems if one of them malfunctioned.
