In announcing that it will be laying off thousands of employees because things are not going so well, Intel also confirmed that it is increasing the warranty on your Raptor Lake processors. Owners of defective CPUs will have their warranty extended by two years.

In an official statement, Intel apologizes for the failure to communicate, something that has been widely criticized around the world, and says that this has been a problem that has challenged the company.

We apologize for the delay in communications as this has been a challenging issue to unravel and definitively determine the root cause.

Regarding the extended warranty for Intel Raptor Lake processors, the company states that the warranty will be two years longer, but will provide more details about this in the coming days.

For those who bought pre-assembled PCs (OEM), Intel tells users to contact these manufacturers. Since you bought a 13th/14th generation CPU in a store, you need to contact Intel’s own support. This, of course, is for those who face instability problems.

Problem affects Raptor Lake CPUs above 65w

A few days ago, Intel spoke about this problematic situation in more detail for the first time to The Verge. At the time, the company did not respond to the website’s questions regarding the extended warranty period.

The tech giant led by Pat Gelsinger will also not issue a recall, not even to retailers. This means that processors that are on sale in stores may end up presenting the already known problems, in something that could be a lottery for the user.

Intel has promised a microcode patch by mid-August. But until then, the maker of Raptor Lake CPUs is telling users to use the factory default settings and update their motherboard BIOS.

This patch will be a “effective preventive solution for processors already in service“, and they will continue working to reach a complete resolution of the issue. The company says that “It is possible that the patch will deliver some instability improvement for currently impacted processors.“.

The affected Intel Raptor Lake processors may go beyond the Core i9 and i7, as the company itself stated that 13th and 14th generation CPUs above 65w are subject to instability issues.
