Créditos: Moore Threads

Chinese graphics card company Moore Threads continues to expand its GPU portfolio. Now, MTT S50 arrives to fit as an intermediate SKU within the current lineupalso composed of four other graphics chips. The new card has 8GB and 85w TDP.

The MTT S50 GPU has half the cores (2,048) compared to the top-of-the-line MTT S80. In addition, the amount of video memory is also half when comparing the two GPUs. The new member of Moore Threads is also capable of handling H.264/H.265, AV1 codecs, among others.

This video card had already been revealed years ago. And compared to the final version, there was a downgrade in this model. The TDP increased by 5w and the interface is PCIe 3.0 x16, instead of PCIe 4.0. The total performance of the GPU is 5.2 TFLOPS, something below the GeForce GTX 1650 in theory.

Moore Threads GPU Performance

Speaking of performance, this is something that has not been revealed about this exact model, and it is also difficult to have results about the other SKUs, as they are products that do not leave China, so we depend on reviews coming from there.

For the sake of awareness, a test with the top-of-the-line MTT S80 GPU, published a year ago, showed the best Moore Threads solution literally taking a beating from the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, a GPU that today lags behind the best iGPUs on the market.

And speaking of integrated graphics, we saw the same SKU from the Chinese company against different integrated graphics, with emphasis on the Radeon 780M of the Ryzen 7 8700G, which delivered simply twice the performance.

Around the same time (early this year), Moore Threads also released new drivers claiming 100% performance improvements in games and synthetic benchmarks with the MTT S80 and S70 GPUs. After that, we haven’t had any third-party tests to verify the supposed improvements.

With the great evolution of integrated graphics based on AMD RDNA 3.5, which are already available on the market with the Ryzen AI 300, and soon with the Intel Xe2 iGPUs present in the Core Ultra 200V series, GPUs like the MTT S50 and the entire Moore Threads lineup become completely obsolete, especially while these chips from AMD and Intel are still arriving in China.
