Computers equipped with Snapdragon X costing up to $700 will start appearing as early as next year. The information comes from Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, who spoke about the subject at a conference with investors. He also emphasizes the performance of the NPU:

“As we look ahead to 2025, in addition to new design achievements, our X-series product roadmap will expand to reach PCs priced as low as $700 without compromising NPU performance.”

Unfortunately, we don’t have any details on what kind of products to expect. Since Amon refers to “X-series products,” he may not even be talking about the Snapdragon X Elite in particular. We should see processor variants, as well as cuts to the device’s configurations to ensure more affordable prices.

It’s interesting to note that the executive even mentioned at Computex 2024 that he would like to see Snapdragon X in all types of PCs – this would even include desktops. It’s speculated that some of the cheapest products with the processors will be notebooks, but it’s also possible that we’ll see some all-in-ones appearing at attractive prices.

Currently, the cheapest Snapdragon X Elite device officially announced is a dev kit. The $900 mini PC, however, is aimed at programmers and isn’t expected to become widely available any time soon.

Also during his call with investors, Qualcomm’s CEO mentioned that we will see more PC models with the Snapdragon X Elite during IFA 2024. The executive expects PC to be the company’s next big segment:

“We are already working with OEMs on the next wave of Copilot+ PCs,” Amon said. “We expect the PC to be the next big driver of diversification for the company.”

The product diversity should help encourage more developers to optimize their games for ARM, an area where Qualcomm CPUs have failed to achieve the prominence they once promised. So far, in fact, battery life seems to have been the main selling point for Snapdragon X PCs – something Lenovo made a big deal out of in one of its recent launches.
