The second generation of the new Intel Core Ultra line (Lunar Lake) arrives on September 3rdinformation now confirmed by the company. The Core Ultra 200V will bring new cores, integrated graphics and NPU, equipping mainly light and thin notebooks.
AMD Ryzen AI 300 series competitors stand out for having the same number of cores and threads among all SKUs in the lineup, as they do not have hyper-threading technology, in addition to not using the low-power cores introduced in Meteor Lake.
Lunar Lake Cores
Moving on from Redwood Cove, the Lunar Lake series will feature Lion Cove as performance cores. Intel promises an average gain of 14% in IPC, that is, a generational evolution in relation to the Core Ultra 100, and between 10 and 18% more performance with the same consumption compared to the previous generation.
Regarding the evolution over the Crestmont cores present in Meteor Lake CPUs, the single-thread performance jump is 68%. Considering how far the LP E cores could go in terms of performance per watt, the new Skymont cores deliver almost three times more performance.
Xe2 Integrated Graphics
According to Intel, the integrated graphics, based on Xe2, will be 50% better than the iGPU of Meteor Lake CPUs. This level of performance improvement is due to a larger amount of cache, larger ray tracing units, new XMX cores for AI processing, and the second-generation Xe cores.
The top-of-the-line Lunar Lake SKU will be equipped with 8 Xe2 cores, the same configuration found in Meteor Lake CPUs, which reinforces the generational leap over the first-generation Xe iGPU. Each core is accompanied by a ray tracing unit, also totaling 8 units.
NPU for AI processing
To close the package, the Intel Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake CPUs will have the fourth generation of NPU, promising performance of 48 TOPS and 120 TOPS combined with 5 TOPs of the new Skymont and Lion Cove cores, in addition to the iGPU Xe2 Battlemage, which is also responsible for most of the performance in AI, since a Core Ultra 200 SKU can deliver 120 TOPs.
As a reminder, Intel Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake CPUs will hit the market on September 3. During the launch event on the same date, the company will reveal more details about this series of processors.
