The long-standing AM4 platform (available since 2016) has received two new processor options. The Ryzen 9 5900XT and the Ryzen 7 5800XT. Both new products belong to the Vermeer family and are based on the Zen 3 microarchitecture.
The AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT has 8 cores and 16 threads, 32 megabytes of L3 cache, while the Ryzen 9 5900XT offers 16 cores/32 threads and 64 MB of L3 cache. Both are characterized by a boost clock frequency of up to 4.8 GHz and a TDP of 105 W. The Ryzen 7 5800XT comes with the AMD Wraith Prism cooler.
AMD also released official slides comparing the performance of the new chips with Intel’s options.
Price and availability
The new models are now available on the international market. The Ryzen 7 5800XT has a suggested price of $249, while the Ryzen 9 5900XT costs $349. Remember that it is possible to use these new chips with practically any motherboard with socket AM4, just perform the UEFI firmware update.
