Team Group has announced a new version of its PCIe 5.0-compatible T-Force SSD. With slightly reduced speeds, the T-Force GC Pro appears to be aimed at a slightly more affordable price segment than the T-Force GE Pro.
With just one letter difference in the name, it’s easy to confuse the two models. Even more so considering that they use exactly the same controller, an InnoGrit “Tacoma” IG5666. The GE Pro, however, announced in August of this year, reaches up to 14GB/s in read, and up to 11GB/s in write.
The newly announced T-Force GC Pro offers the same 11GB/s write speed, but its read speed stops at 12.5GB/s. Certainly respectable numbers, but reduced enough to offer a new price option. The manufacturer, however, chose not to reveal pricing for the SSD yet.
Team Group’s newly announced Gen 5 SSD will come in 2TB and 4TB capacity options, with very different durability estimates. The smaller model goes up to 1,200TBW, while the larger one doubles that estimate, to 2,400TBW.
Team Group recommends a heatsink for the SSD
The T-Force GC Pro doesn’t come with a very robust heatsink. It comes with a heatspreader, actually made of metal and coated with graphene. Still, the manufacturer recommends purchasing a dedicated heatsink to use with the product.
Those who are particularly concerned about overheating can check out a solution from Team Group itself. Last year, the brand launched the T-Force Dark AirFlow I, basically an SSD cooler.
With the impressive speeds achieved by PCIe 5.0 SSDs, more robust cooling solutions have become increasingly common. Lexar, for example, has a new component with speeds very similar to the T-Force GC Pro, but which already incorporates a heatsink with a small fan. And the tiny fan even has RGB LEDs!
